Did you know these facts about the Oak View branch of the Ventura
county library? It has been in the same location for nearly 14
years. There are nearly 3000 volumes in this one location. Any book
that can be had at all is available through the Oak View library.
These facts might surprise a lot of people: they did
me.
This branch of the county library was at various
locations in Oak View until it found its present home in 1945. Its
location is on West Oak View avenue, and its librarian since that
date has been Mrs. Wallace Hiebert.
The shelves of this library contain a great many
volumes of both fiction and non-fiction for every age group. I was
amazed at the great number of adult books. However, while I was
there, the children's intermediate and junior books seemed to hold
the main interest. There are also reference books and current
magazines.
The circulation varies from 300 or 400 books per month
-- around holiday season, to 600 or 700 books per month during the
summer months.
Around 40 youngsters attend the summer reading club
sessions. It appears that Oak View youngsters spend a great deal of
time reading, especially during the long summer days.
Books are changed regularly in this library. New books
are three-month loan books. About 65 to 70 new books arrive each
month, and about that many are taken back. Best selling books have
been known to be more readily available at times through this
library than the Ventura library.
Library hours are as follows: Monday and
Thursday: 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 3 to 5 p.m. |
